New York architects to reflect nature’s tranquility in design of new hotel on Tianmu Lake, China

Travel News Asia 1 June 2005

A slice of New York’s big apple is due to land on the picturesque shoreline of China’s Tianmu Lake with development underway of the new five-star Sofitel Fizi Tianmu Lake near Liang City, Jiangsu Province. The Sofitel is scheduled for completion by the end of 2006.

Renowned New York-based architects and interior designers BBG-BBGM have been appointed to create a luxurious and stylish five-star hotel to complement its spectacular lakeside location on the banks of Lake Tianmu.

The project is being developed by well known residential and commercial property developer, the Fizi Group, who are also developing another Sofitel for Accor, Sofitel Fizi Haikou.

The 400-room Sofitel Fizi Tianmu Lake will make the most of its position with a special lake viewing deck and its own private jetty.

The hotel is being developed as a holiday and conference hotel, with a range of leisure facilities available including an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre.

Sofitel Fizi Tianmu Lake will have three restaurants, a lobby lounge and extensive meeting and function facilities.

In future developments, a heliport and a small airport for private planes will be added.

Designated a national scenic site, the Tianmu Lake’s zig zag shoreline of secluded coves and beautiful bays is framed by serene mountains and bamboo forests. The region also produces some of the world’s best green tea, with biking and hiking other popular pastimes at this peaceful destination.

Literally meaning “Eyes of Heaven”, the lake traditionally attracts holiday-makers from within Jiangsu Province and the Yangtze Delta areas, with the new Sofitel hotel expected to also become a popular retreat for residents of busy urban centres such as Nanjing and Shanghai.

Less than an hour by car from either Nanjing Airport or Changzhou, the hotel is also an easy three-hour drive from Shanghai making it an ideal retreat for honeymooners, families, and conference and incentive groups.
