Marriott's Senior Regional Leaders Help Rebuild Homes in Khao Lak

The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa was chosen as the venue for Marriott Internationals 2005 Asia Pacific Area Operations Meeting. With the theme "Blueprint for Operational Excellence" more than 80 senior Marriott leaders from the region including Australia and Hawaii met in Phuket. The Operations Meeting is held annually in one of Marriott's properties in the region and addresses future standards of Marriott hospitality.

On the final day of the meeting, the group joined "Habitat for Humanity" to help rebuild several areas in the tsunami devastated Khao Lak in Phang Na region an hour north of Phuket. The group prepared cement for building, dug foundations for houses, painted roof tiles and cleaned up the construction site.

Habitat for Humanity International was set up in 1976 and is a nonprofit Christian housing project with the aim to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness throughout the world. Habitat also helps in areas hit by natural disasters.

Marriott have been working closely with Habitat globally. This year Marriott launched the "100 houses Campaign" for Habitat and has contributed US$50,000 to Habitat for Humanity International's rebuilding efforts in Thailand and Indonesia, with a goal of building 100 homes.

JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa will also be helping Habitat to rebuild houses in Thachatchai village which is the near the resort.
