Solomon Airlines has confirmed that on 24 January 2015 it will launch flights from Honiara to Nadi via Port Vila each Saturday, returning on Sunday.

Solomon Airlines has validated a tripartite codeshare agreement with fellow Melanesian carriers Air Niugini and Air Vanuatu. Initially announced in principle last February, the watershed agreement confirming the codeshare was officially signed by the heads of all three carriers at the bi-annual Association of South Pacific Airlines (ASPA) AGM taking place in Brisbane.

The 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal has been attributed as the key factor in the Solomon Islands recording its biggest ever August visitor intake since arrival records began. A total of 2,589 visitors arrived in August 2017, a 34.98% increase over the 1,916 recorded in August 2016 with marked increases seen from Australia, the US, New Zealand and particularly Japan.

Figures released this week show international visitation to the Solomon Islands, for the period January – December 2015, increased from 20,061 in 2014 to 21,623 – a growth of 7.8%. Australian visitor arrivals again led the way, the 9509 total recorded for the 12 month period representing a 4.10% increase over 2014 and accounting for 43.9% of the 2015 total.
