The flight GE235 was operating between Taipei and Kinmen with 58 people on board. The aircraft, registered under B-22816, was MSN (Manufacturing Serial Number) 1141.

Flybes first brand new ATR entered service last month. The airline will incorporate four other new 70-seat ATR 72-600s into the SAS network between 2016 and 2017.
