Travel News Asia 5 December 2002

Over 1500 children gathered at the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House in Shindagha to receive eidiyah from officials of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) today on the occasion of the Eid festival.

“Eid is celebrated with prayers and the exchange of gifts,” said DTCM Manager Sheikh Saeed’s House, Abdullah bin Jassim Al Muthairy. “The distribution of gifts forms a major part of the Eid celebrations and the distribution of eidiyah to children at Sheikh Saeed’s House comprises sweets and money,” he said.

“We do not publicize the distribution of eidiyah as it is meant to be a special surprise for the young ones visiting the Sheikh Saeed’s House and we are delighted that so many children were present to receive the gifts,” said Mr. Al Muthairy.

During the Eid break the Shindagha heritage sites offer more than 60 events and activities specially planned to provide a taste of Arabian traditions and culture.

Among the many events include an exhibition of photographs of the late HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, a National Day Heritage Opera complete with drama - set to musical pieces, a traditional fashion accessories exhibition and an exceptional display of the impact of the formation of the UAE Federation on children as well as an exhibition of the works of children with special needs.

Other popular activities that appealed to the holiday crowd included a police cavalry show, parachuting aerobatics, firework displays and traditional music and dance performances.
