As part of an intentional move to create increased awareness of the UAE’s heritage and culture during the forthcoming 31st National Day and Eid celebrations, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced that entrance to all heritage sites in Shindagha including Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, Heritage Village and Diving Village as well as the Hatta Heritage Village would be free for the public.
“There will be no entrance charge levied starting from the first day of Eid to the 12th of December to facilitate visitors to the sites as well as to secure a more widespread audience as we go about the task of promoting the country’s culture,” said DTCM Manager Heritage Sites and Events, Awadh Al
Seghayer.
The heritage sites in Shindagha comprise genuinely refurbished and fully equipped structures representing traditional life in the UAE. The purpose of the sites is to safeguard the culture and architectural heritage of Dubai to ensure present and future generations have an opportunity to celebrate their heritage.
The Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House along with the Heritage and Diving Village are the focal point of activity for many cultural celebrations. “Shindagha heritage sites offer visitors a unique diversion - a slice of history minus the hustle and bustle associated with city life,” remarked Mr. Al
Seghayer.
Visitors get an opportunity to experience activities of yesteryears through demonstrations by costumed and trained performers and travel back in time to discover the treasures of Dubai’s heritage. Each event and activity is recreated live alongside historical exhibits, hundreds of artifacts and
illustrative activities.
With the scenic Dubai Creek promenade as a backdrop, the Shindagha heritage sites beckon individuals who wish to savor a truly unique Arabian experience.
A living village, a working farm with oxen, a traditional souq, costumed interpreters, art and crafts exhibitions, traditional Arabian hospitality, music, games, holiday
celebrations.... all this and more awaits the visitor during the Eid holidays. |
