Finnair and SWISS start cooperation on routes between Finland and South and Central Europe

Travel News Asia 27 November 2002

Finnair and Switzerland's airline SWISS will start codesharing on flights between Helsinki and Zurich, Finnish domestic flights and flights from Zurich to six South and Central European destinations starting December 9. The cooperation flights will have both a Finnair and SWISS flight number. Finnair flies to Zurich twice daily.

Thanks to the co-operation, Finnair will be able to offer its customers more frequencies via Zurich to Milan, Rome, Venice and Bologna in Italy and year-round service to Nice in France and Athens in Greece, which are only Finnair seasonal or charter destinations. Accordingly SWISS can sell the Finnair operated Zurich-Helsinki flights under its own flight number as well as connections to Turku, Tampere, Vaasa and Oulu.

The airlines have an existing code-share agreement on the SWISS operated Helsinki-Basel route as well as on the connections from Basel to Geneva, Bern and Lugano.

Swiss International Air Lines Ltd, former Crossair, started operations under its new name at the beginning of April this year. SWISS operates a fleet of 132 aircraft which, during the winter timetable, will be serving 117 destinations in 59 countries.
