Continental Airlines announces renewed daily service between New York and Caracas, Venezuela

Travel News Asia 25 September 2002

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced it will renew daily, nonstop service between the airline’s New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport, and Simon Bolivar Maiquetia International Airport in Caracas, Venezuela, starting Dec. 12, 2002.

The new daily service augments Continental’s existing daily nonstop service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Caracas.

Continental previously offered daily service between Liberty International and Caracas, but reduced the flight schedule to once a week on Saturdays because of decreased demand after Sept. 11, 2001.

Continental will operate a Boeing 737-700 aircraft. CO 1915 will depart Liberty International at 4:15 p.m. daily, arriving in Caracas at 10:15 p.m. The return flight, CO 1916, will leave Caracas at 8:30 a.m., arriving at Liberty International at 12:33 p.m. The 737-700 series aircraft seats 12 in the first class cabin and 112 in coach.

“We are very pleased to be able to resume Continental Airlines’ daily service between Liberty International and Caracas,” said a Continental spokesperson. “Our new flight schedule will be a great convenience for New York-area business travelers and customers who are traveling home to Venezuela to visit family and friends.”

Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, is the center of the country’s business and government activities.

The No. 2 U.S. air carrier to Latin America and the Caribbean in number of passengers and destinations served, Continental serves 28 destinations with 192 weekly flights in Latin America and the Caribbean from New York.

Continental Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., offering more than 2,100 departures daily to 122 domestic and 90 international destinations. Operating hubs in New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, Continental serves more international cities than any other U.S. carrier, including extensive service throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
