Finnair and Swiss Railways Launch Cooperation

Travel News Asia 25 October 2002

Finnair and the Swiss railway company, SBB (Swiss Federal Railways SBB Ltd), will introduce code share cooperation on the railway routes within Switzerland starting from November 18.

Finnair's flight number will be designated to rail connections from Zürich to Basel, Berne, Lausanne and Lucerne. Finnair's two daily Helsinki-Zürich services will offer good connections to these destinations.

Cooperation makes possible the reservation and sale of airline tickets at the same time, for both the air and rail connections. On departure from Helsinki both the passenger and luggage can be checked through to the destination railway station. Also in Switzerland, the passenger may check in at the railway station all the way to the final flight destination and luggage is automatically transferred onto the flight in Zurich.

Finnair Plus members are awarded points on code share rail routes.

Code share rail connections can be found in the flight reservation systems. Railway destinations are identified by their three-letter codes, which are ZDH (Basel), ZDJ (Berne), QLJ (Lucerne) and QLS (Lausanne).

This is Finnair's first-ever code share agreement with a railway company. Finnair is SBB's first airline cooperation partner in Lausanne, Berne and Lucerne.
