Specially-made beds, choice of pillows, and duvets add up to a restful night for guests of Holiday Inn

Travel News Asia 21 October 2002

Holiday Inn has made a major investment to ensure a good night’s sleep for guests at its 21 hotels and resorts in the Middle East and North Africa.

Across the region, Holiday Inn has introduced industry leading beds designed to its own stringent comfort specifications, replaced blankets with duvets, and is offering guests a choice of five types of pillows.

“It all adds up to a very comfortable and restful night for guests,” said David Atkinson, Holiday Inn Area Director, Sales and Marketing, Middle East and Africa.

Ensuring a good night’s sleep is part of the new four brand hallmarks Holiday Inn has launched – Sleep, Breakfast, Can Do Service and Rewards – in the Middle East, as part of a global campaign to make the most of the qualities its guests already appreciate best.

Identified through intensive research, the Hallmarks are four main areas in which its customers say Holiday Inn provides great service, and outperforms its competitors.

“A great night’s sleep is an integral part of a Holiday Inn stay, and we’ve gone to great lengths to make sure our guests are not disappointed,” said Atkinson. “With 85 million guests worldwide every year choosing Holiday Inn for their home away from home, we want to guarantee a good night’s rest, and that’s precisely what we’re doing.”

The majority of Holiday Inn guests are frequent business travellers staying for 20 nights or more. In a recent survey to find what would improve their hotel experience, “more comfortable bedding, less noise and adjustable heating” were among the top answers.

Holiday Inn has responded by introducing “pocket-spring” mattresses, designed to the contour of the body, with double the number of springs than the previous twin size beds. Duvets, now used in place of blankets and bedspreads, add to the homely feel. And the new Holiday Inn “pillow menu” means guests can chose from a selection of soft, medium or firm pillows, synthetic or natural feather, pillows to suit those with allergies, and others in line with local traditions and customs, such as the bolster-shaped pillow.

At the same time, new blackout curtains with parallel overlap curtain tracks block out early morning sunlight and piercing evening lights, which can both ruin a good night’s sleep. And to prevent guests in adjoining rooms from being disturbed, in-room televisions are set to 45 per cent of volume capacity, and new alarm clocks have a buzzing tone, rather than a high-pitched alarm.
