Star Alliance introduces Circle Pacific Fare

Travel News Asia 1 October 2002

Star Alliance has launched a new fare product that offers a unique opportunity to explore the sights and sounds of the Pacific for up to six months on a mileage based ticket that is certain to attract even the most price conscious globetrotters.

The Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare allows travelers to visit the fascinating countries and islands of this vast region that are being served by member airlines, including the Cook Islands, Fiji, Western Samoa and Tonga. It is available for travel in First, Business and Economy Class for trips with a maximum mileage of either 22,000 or 26,000 miles. As an example, a 22,000-mile Circle Pacific Fare for travel in Economy Class from/to New Zealand is currently available at NZD 2,939 (approx USD 1,380). Members of a Star Alliance airline frequent flyer program will be able to accrue mileage or points with the new airpass, which is valid on Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, United Airlines and VARIG Brazilian Airlines.

“We have designed this new product for people who want to explore the world but not necessarily on a sweeping round the world expedition,” explained Rainer Dittrich, Director, Revenue Management, Star Alliance. “The Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare nicely complements our other fare offerings such as the Star Alliance Airpass Round the World and the regional airpasses we have developed for Europe as well as for North America and the Carribbean,” he said.

As with all tickets of this category there are certain simple conditions attached to the Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare. Travel must include one North Pacific and one South Pacific Crossing, and Australia/New Zealand and Canada/USA will have to be on the itinerary. A minimum of three stopovers is required, and as a general rule each city may only be visited once. Travel has to commence and terminate in the same Pacific Rim country.
