Crowne Plaza transforms popular Bahrain Hotel

Travel News Asia 18 November 2002

Bahrain becomes another new destination for the Crowne Plaza hotel brand next month with the rebranding of one of the island’s best established hotel properties following a three-year renovation programme.

The Crowne Plaza Bahrain becomes the 13th property in an impressive line-up of Crowne Plaza hotels and resorts in the Middle East and Africa which attract growing numbers of business and leisure travellers.

The transformation of the former Holiday Inn Bahrain by its owners, the Bahrain Tourism Company BSC, began in November 1999 with the complete refurbishment of its 165 guest rooms, and the installation of new air conditioning and telephone systems, as well as in-room internet and fax lines.

The second phase of the renovation project saw the refurbishment of the La Mosaique restaurant and Harversters pub, and the creation of the new Tracks Sports Bar, Harvesters Terrace, an outdoor paved patio, an arabic tent, children’s playground, and an arabic night club, “Golden Club”.

The final phase has brought a striking new hotel entrance and reception area, a new Cappuccino coffee lounge, as well as new air-conditioned guest corridors and an additional 60 car park spaces. The hotel’s transformation will be completed with the opening of a new themed seafood restaurant at the end of the year.

“The rebranding represents a major investment by the hotel owners,” said David Atkinson, Area Director Marketing, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Middle East and Africa. “Building on the success of one of Bahrain’s most popular hotels, the Crowne Plaza Bahrain now has a great deal more to offer business and leisure travellers, as well as conference and meeting organisers.”

Oussama Massoud, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Bahrain, said: “This hotel has built a close relationship with a great number of loyal guests over the years. The renovation and rebranding is a very positive step for them, and for the new customers who will be attracted by the Crowne Plaza reputation for first-class hospitality.”

The hotel which opened for business in January 1979 as a premier resort style property was given an extra dimension in 1995 with the opening of the adjoining the Bahrain Conference Centre, a premier venue for hosting international conferences, exhibitions and banquets upto a capacity of 1700 delegates. This purpose-built conference and exhibition venue offers a floor capacity of 2,000 square metres, as well as a variety of meeting rooms.
