SriLankan Airlines increases services to India and Europe

Travel News Asia 18 October 2002

SriLankan Airlines will launch flights to Bodh Gaya in India and resume flights to Frankfurt in Germany, among other schedule enhancements, in the Winter 2002 season.

The Airbus A320 will be deployed to Bodh Gaya every Tuesday afternoon, beginning November 12. This raises SriLankan's destinations in India to seven, the other six being New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Trichy and Trivandrum.

The standard time for daily morning flights to Chennai will continue: at 0805 hours.

New Delhi will also be served six times a week, i.e. everyday except Saturday. On Tuesday, the flight will operate via Bodh Gaya to Delhi. The other flights fly non-stop to Delhi.

Mumbai will also have an additional flight on Tuesday. The other flights operate on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Flights to Frankfurt will begin on December 4, 2002. The flight on Wednesday (A340) will fly via Zurich, while the flight on Friday (A330) will fly non-stop to Frankfurt.

Zurich which has four flights each week at present will have five flights in the Winter schedule. These will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

From December 3, there will be nine flights each week to London. The morning flights from Heathrow will have a common departure time of 1025 hours while the evening flights will have a common departure time of 2125 hours.

There will be daily flights to Singapore, eight frequencies a week. This is an enhancement since although there are eight frequencies at present, there is no flight on Thursday.

"The prospects for peace have turned the economic climate in Sri Lanka for the better," says SriLankan's CEO Peter Hill." This has made it possible for us to start growing our business again. We are happy to offer these flight enhancements to our customers who can look forward to more in the future."

The air travel winter season begins in the last week of October and ends in the last week of March.

With the addition of Bodh Gaya, SriLankan's route network increases to 30 destinations in 20 countries.

* Passengers from Australia can transfer to daily SriLankan Airlines flights from Singapore to Colombo.
