Travel News Asia 13 December 2002

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) has announced that the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces is a partner in its SkyMiles frequent flyer program. SkyMiles members now can earn 500 miles for each qualifying stay* at Taj Luxury and Taj International Hotels and 250 miles for each qualifying stay* at the Taj Business and Taj Leisure Hotels.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2003, Taj will offer SkyMiles members double miles for qualifying stays at all participating hotels and a "Third Night Free" at Taj Luxury Hotels and Taj Business Hotels, as part of the partnership launch.

"This partnership provides our SkyMiles members with an additional opportunity to earn miles while enjoying superior service and a unique lodging experience when their travels take them to India or other Taj locations," said Christine Pierce, Delta’s director of Partnership Marketing. "With our daily nonstop flights from Paris to Mumbai, and our codeshare service operated by Air France to Mumbai and Delhi, SkyMiles members have a convenient gateway to India."

"We are extremely happy to partner with Delta Air Lines in this initiative. As one of the largest hotel chains in the south Asian region, the Taj Group offers Delta SkyMiles members access to hotels across every major city and region in India and to its key properties around the world," said Jyoti Narang, Vice President, Marketing, The Taj Group of Hotels. "In addition, Delta Air Lines is one of the leading carriers from the United States to India and provides the Taj Group with access to a large number of international travelers. With its world-class facilities and warm Indian hospitality, it is fitting that the Taj Group is the only Indian hospitality brand to partner with Delta."

Established in 1903, the Taj Group is India’s largest global hotel company, comprised of 50 hotels in 34 locations across India with an additional 11 international properties in the Maldives, UK, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Africa and the Middle East. From world-renowned landmark hotels to modern business properties, idyllic beach resorts to authentic Rajput palaces, each Taj hotel offers an unrivalled fusion of world-class service and modern luxury.

Delta SkyMiles members earn mileage by flying Delta, Delta Connection carriers, Delta Express, Delta Shuttle and Delta's airline partners, including Delta's SkyTeam partners. The Delta SkyMiles program offers many other mileage-building opportunities, including the Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, AT&T telecommunication services, Nextel® wireless services, EarthLink™ Internet services, participating hotels, car rental companies, restaurants, home buying and selling, cruise line and flower purchases. The SkyMiles program received InsideFlyer's 2001 Industry Impact Award for industry-leading and customer-focused promotions.
