Mercure Inn Continental Broome, Australia, offers special rates while airport is closed

Travel News Asia 1 November 2002

No planes, no crowds, no noise and how about Cable Beach to yourself? Now is the ideal time to drive to Broome and enjoy a quiet and relaxing break while the airport is closed for the runway to be upgraded.

Mercure Inn Continental Broome is offering locals within driving distance, or those intrepid travelers from further a field, to take advantage of the lull in the normally busy town and grab a great “no frills” rate at the historic Mercure Inn Continental.

The $70.00 per room per night, is for a room only, plus a complimentary drink voucher for use at the adjacent Capt'n Murphy's Irish Pub (1 voucher per person per day).

The hotel has an oasis style shaded pool, tennis, al fresco dining, in house movies, and large, modern comfortably appointed rooms.

The special room rate is only available for travel between 11 Nov 2002 & 22 Nov 2002.

Effective 11 November 2002 until Nov 23rd, Broome Airport will temporarily close for major repair works to the runway. It is expected that the upgrades will be completed by 22 November 2002.

All services to Broome Airport have been cancelled between the dates of 11–22 November 2002 inclusive. Over this period, Qantas Airways will operate a minimum of two services per day from Perth to Derby Airport and vice versa. Derby is located approximately 220 kilometres from Broome. Passengers travelling between Derby Airport and Broome Airport will be transferred by scheduled bus services, which will meet all flights. The bus journey takes approximately 2.5 hours.
