Two Regent International Hotels in Southeast Asia Keep Things “Hot” with High Scores from Condé Nast Traveler

Travel News Asia Date: 3 May 2000

Annual “Hot List” and “Hot Tables” List Sing the Praises of

The Regent Mumbai and The Regent Bangkok

HONG KONG --- --- Regent International Hotels are sizzling in 2000. The new Regent Mumbai (Bombay), located in Mumbai, India, has landed on Condé Nast Traveler’s fourth annual “Hot List,” naming it among the top new hotels in the world. The publication’s second annual “Hot Tables” list recognises The Regent Bangkok’s new restaurant, Biscotti, as one of the most exciting internationally. Both of these lists appear in the May 2000 issue of Condé Nast Traveler, which is the biggest issue of any travel magazine ever to be published at 385 pages.

The “Hot List” and “Hot Tables” rankings take shape during an exacting screening process, in which the magazine’s editors pare down a list of several hundred contenders and select only the hotels and restaurants that meet the tough preliminary criteria. Then, the magazine’s editors and field reporters are selected from a global network of reporters and sent to visit and review each new hotel and restaurant incognito. Both lists appear in the May issue every year.

Hotels that make the prestigious Hot List possess a rare confluence of style, service, and surroundings. Out of the hundreds of contenders, only 36 new hotels in the world made it onto the 2000 list. This year’s “Hot Tables” list highlights the top 60 new restaurants in the world, represented by over 35 countries.

“We are pleased with the continued recognition we have received from Condé Nast Traveler magazine. For two consecutive years (1999 and 1998) Regent made a tremendous showing in the magazine’s “Gold List,” when no less than eight Regent Hotels in eight different destinations made the list. Making the “Hot List” and “Hot Tables” lists reaffirms Regent’s reputation for exceptional guest service, attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality,” Mr Paul Hanley, President, Regent International Hotels, said.

The Regent Mumbai

Acclaimed in the “Hot List” for its excellent service and extraordinary setting, The Regent Mumbai opened in June 1999. The hotel offers panoramic views of the Arabian Sea, which can be enjoyed from every one of its 508 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites.

In addition to a dramatic five-storey marble lobby, the hotel features several food and beverage facilities including Chinese and Indian Restaurants. Other facilities include a 24-hour Business Centre; a sophisticated 24-hour Health Club and Spa with separate male and female sauna, Jacuzzi®, massage rooms and lockers; a large outdoor swimming pool and lush tropical landscaping.

The Regent Bangkok

Condé Nast Traveler’s “Hot Tables” list praises The Regent Bangkok for the “creative Italian cuisine” served at its new dining venue, Biscotti. The magazine also states “…European food is taking Asia by storm. The new Biscotti, in The Regent Hotel, is responsible for the surge in the popularity of Italian cuisine.”

Traditional Thai architecture, hand-painted silk ceilings, intricate art work, an impressively scaled Lobby and glorious gardens are just some of the features that make a stay at The Regent Bangkok simultaneously exciting and soothing to the soul.

In addition to Biscotti, five enticing restaurants serve a range of fine cuisine, including Japanese and Thai. A fully equipped health club, fitness centre and squash courts provide relaxation and rejuvenation opportunities. Guests can also indulge in the Clinique La Prairie Health and Beauty spa.

Add to that gracious hospitality and exquisite accommodations that serve as a cool oasis in the heart of this bustling city and guests will understand the true meaning of The Regent experience.
