PAL offers early check-in

Travel News Asia Date: 7 December 2000

Philippine Airlines announces the implementation of early check-in at all its counters at the NAIA Centennial Terminal 2 to handle the surge in travelers during the Christmas season.

Effective immediately, PAL counters will be open to serve passengers starting as early as 2:00 A.M. for domestic flights and 4:00 A.M. for international flights, daily.

This enables passengers to check-in their luggage and claim their boarding passes several hours ahead of their scheduled departure on that day, thus avoiding the need to rush and queue up as flight time nears.

PAL passengers may check in as early as three hours before departure for domestic flights and eight hours before departure for international flights.

“We strongly advise passengers to avail of this early check-in advantage, which is unique to PAL,” said Felipe M. Valencia, PAL vice president for airport services.

Meanwhile, PAL issued the following advisory to all travelers to ensure a safe, stress-free journey during the Christmas holidays:

Hand-carried baggage is strictly limited to one piece per passenger. The item must weigh no more than seven kilos (15 pounds) and have a size dimension of no more than 45 inches (115 cm.). The restriction on hand-carried baggage is due as much to aircraft safety considerations as passenger comfort. Grossly overweight hand-carries can affect aircraft balance and thrust, particularly during take-off and landing.

· Valuable items such as cash, jewelry, negotiable papers, silverware and cameras must not be included in checked-in luggage. In case of loss, the air carrier’s liability is limited by the International Air Transport Association to only US$ 20 per kilogram of the lost item, regardless of its value.

· All checked baggage must be properly labeled with the passenger’s name and address. This is a precautionary measure in case the main airline baggage tag is torn off during handling.

A confirmed reservation is not an ironclad guarantee that the seat is reserved for the passenger. The passenger must ensure that he is physically at the head of the check-in counter at least 45 minutes before departure. Merely being inside the terminal or queuing up at the luggage X-ray machine does not count as part of the 45-minute grace period, at which time all airline counters must close.
