NEW JW MARRIOTT HOTEL PLANNED FOR MUMBAI, INDIA

Travel News Asia Date: 4 September 2000

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has announced that it has been named to manage the new 371-room JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai in India, which is scheduled to open next year.

The hotel is being developed by Juhu Beach Resorts Private Ltd., a special purpose company formed by the Raheja Group and Mecca Properties Development Private Ltd., both of which are deeply involved in commercial real estate development in India.

The JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai will be located on Juhu Beach, approximately 20 kilometers north of the Mumbai central business district and 15 kilometers southwest of the international airport. Juhu is one of Mumbai’s premier residential areas, as well as home to many of India’s famous film stars.

When opened, it will be the first JW Marriott Hotel in India and 19th in Marriott International’s JW Marriott Hotel portfolio. JW Marriott Hotels are targeted toward business and leisure travelers who require a higher level of comfort and service than is generally provided by upscale hotels.

“We are delighted to enter the Mumbai travel market with a JW Marriott Hotel and to see our presence in India grow,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International.

“I am proud of my association with Marriott and proud to launch one of Marriott’s most prestigious brands in India,” said Mr. Raheja of the Raheja Group.

For dining and recreation, the JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai will have three restaurants and a lobby lounge and bar offering nightly entertainment. Other amenities will include an exclusive club that will cater to hotel guests and private members. It will have a full health club and day spa, three squash courts, a tennis court, billiards room, indoor game room and prestigious club restaurant and lounge.

Other amenities will include 67 executive floor guest rooms and lounge, retail shops, outdoor swimming pool, travel and limousine desk, and underground parking for 63 automobiles.

For conferences and social events, the JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai will have 1,210 square meters of flexible space, including a 670-square-meter ballroom that is divisible into three sections; four additional meeting rooms, two of which can be divided into two sections; and a 70-square-meter board room.

In India, the Marriott lodging presence currently consists of the following hotels:
- 153-room Goa Marriott Resort
- 237-room Lakeside Chalet Marriott Executive Apartments in Mumbai
- 202-room Renaissance Goa Resort
