PAL named ‘Super Brand’

Travel News Asia Date: 25 August 2000

Philippine Airlines has again been selected one of the top-performing brands in the country by readers of the widely circulated international lifestyle magazine Reader’s Digest.

For the second straight year, PAL was named “Super Brand” Gold winner by the Digest after it emerged as the top airline choice in the Philippine market in an Asia-wide reader poll.

Respondents were asked to name freely their most preferred brand in 41 categories of products and services ranging from cars to baby food to consumer electronics.

They were then asked to rate their favorite brand according to five key factors – quality, value, trustworthiness, image, and having a strong understanding of customers’ needs.

PAL was among only two “Super Brand” Gold awardees in the airline category. The complete results were published in the May 2000 edition of the Digest.

“A Super Brand Gold winner is a top-performing brand in a category, performing significantly above the many other brands voted for. (It) is a symbol of class, quality and dependability,” said the magazine.

The award comes on the heels of similar citations garnered by PAL from international publications and research firms in recent months.

In June, PAL’s service quality was rated “four stars” out of five in a global survey by England-based Inflight Research Services – a ranking that placed the flag carrier among the world’s top carriers in service delivery and product development.

In May, the prestigious Asian Wall Street Journal ranked PAL second among 12 major Asia-Pacific airlines in arrival punctuality and third in departures. PAL’s average on-time record of 89% enabled it to out-perform its rivals in this important area of airline service.
