SUMMIT HOTELS & RESORTS ADDS WORLD HERITAGE CITIES TO PORTFOLIO

Travel News Asia Date: 21 July 2000

Luxury hotel consortium, Summit Hotels & Resorts has added two new properties to its portfolio of luxury independent hotels: Hotel Grand Palace in Riga (Latvia) and Hotel St Petersbourg in Tallinn (Estonia). Riga and Tallinn are UNESCO-listed world heritage sites.

Both hotels are set in the heart of a mediaeval city, characterised by narrow cobbled streets and historic local attractions, yet are also close by the key business district. They are examples of Riga and Tallinn’s increasing profile as luxury business and leisure destinations.

Hotel Grand Palace, Riga

Newly opened in June 2000, the hotel is located in Riga’s cobblestoned 15th century ‘Old Town’. It is close to major landmarks, including the Dome Cathedral, Riga Castle and the Pils Tower fortification, and also to Riga’s commercial district, including government offices and the major banks.

Hotel Grand Palace’s 56 luxury suites and guest rooms are equipped with up-to-the minute executive amenities, from computer facilities and voice mail to 24 hour room service. The hotel has a choice of bars and restaurants including the conservatory-style Orangerie which serves food all day, and the more intimate surroundings of Seasons restaurant, with its large open fireplace. Private rooms are available for conferences or special functions, equipped with the most up-to-date technology. For relaxation, the Health Club features sauna, massage, solarium and a health bar.

Hotel St Petersbourg in Tallinn

Since 1850, this elegant town house has played host to international statesmen, diplomats and business leaders. Located in Tallinn’s historic Old Town, the hotel sits within the city’s main shopping and business district.

The hotel has 27 luxury rooms and suites fully equipped with every modern amenity from in-room computer work station to fax and printer (on request). This also includes non-smoking rooms, wheelchair access and anti-allergy facilities. Drinks are served all day in The Hermitage Bar and Lounge. Conferences and events at St Petersbourg can accommodate up to 100 people for a cocktail event, as well as small conferences or intimate business meetings, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. For relaxation, the hotel has a traditional Estonian-style sauna.
