Open up the tourism market and promote in Japan

Following the “Macau Promotion Week” for Singapore in August, the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) continues its series of promotional campaign in Japan. The “Macau Day” campaign will be launched on the 20th of September, meanwhile, Macau and Japan are going to discuss about the charter program between the two.

The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Chui Sai On, MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Antunes and Deputy Director Maria Helena Senna Fernandes are going to attend the promotion activities in Japan. On the other hand, Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah and famous businessman and tourism personage of Macau Stanley Ho have also received the invitation.

To further enhance the market in Asia and attract more tourists, Macau especially selected Japan as one of the target markets. According to the statistics from January to July in the year 2000, the number of Japanese tourists visited Macau was over 80,000. Aside from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, Japan become one of the main source of tourists.

On 20th of September, the schedule of “Macau Day” promotion campaign is packed with events one after another. At noon, MGTO will invite the key executives of Japan Association of Travel Agent (JATA), Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO) and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) for a luncheon in Westin Tokyo.

In the afternoon, there will be a press conference held in a meeting hall at Venus Fort Plaza and an announcement about the charter program between Japan and Macau will be made, in which local reporters will be invited.

At the same time, MGTO has organized a series of activities for the “Macau Day” Promotion Campaign in Venus Fort Plaza. Activities include Macau Photo Exhibition, Lion Dance, Martial art, Portuguese Fado and Folk Dance as well as games. The performance will be staged in 3 time lots to give a greater and more extensive impact about the unique characteristics of Macau on the Japanese people.

To mark the occasion, Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Secretary Chui Sai On and Dr. Stanley Ho is going to hold the eye-dotting ceremony at the “Macau Day” Promotion Campaign.

Following the promoting in Venus Fort, the three guests will officiate the opening ceremony for the Macanese Food Promotion Campaign in Westin Tokyo. Two chefs from Macau are going to present mouthwatering Macanese cuisine in the ten days of Food Fair.

At night, Secretary Chui Sai On will host a banquet for the local media and guests at Westin Hotel.
