"THE VERTICAL MARATHON 2000" INVITATION TO CONQUER THE 60 STOREY WESTIN BANYAN TREE

Join the race against gravity! The Vertical Marathon 2000 will be held on Sunday, 30th July 2000 at 8 am. Organized by The Westin Banyan Tree Bangkok, this sporting competition requires the participant to climb up 1,093 steps of the 60-storey Westin Banyan Tree, Bangkok's tallest business hotel.

Mr. Stephen C. Groh, who was one of the winners for last year's Vertical Marathon, currently practices on his bicycle, does uphill windsprints, gymnastics and swims as well on long distances. He will be participating this year and his goal is to be the overall champion. Originally from Toledo, Ohio USA, Mr. Groh is also active volunteer of the Human Development Centre.

Prizes for the Vertical Marathon 2000 include return air-tickets; Bangkok to Singapore and Phuket, hotel stays overseas and Phuket, Nike sporting goods, food vouchers and trophies. All participants who complete the race will also receive a medal and Certificate of Participation. Entry is open to all ages from 15 to 50 and couples or teams are welcome to participate. Participants will be divided into male and female and age groups.

Application forms are available from now on at The Westin Banyan Tree and Robinson Department stores. Besides celebrating the hotel's anniversary, The Westin Banyan Tree is organizing this event to raise funds for charity. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Phyathai Babies-Home and Human Development Centre.

The Vertical Marathon 2000 on 30th July will certainly be an adrenaline-filled challenge complete with fun and excitement. Be at Thai Wah I Atrium from 8 am onwards to witness this sporting challenge for yourself. At the same time, members of the public are also invited to take part in the games which will be conducted by our DJ's, Khun Aum Pukkavej, host of Spice TV on Channel 3 and Khun Jennifer Tsou from Star TV and UBC.
