ENHANCEMENTS PERSONALIZE GALILEO INTERNATIONAL’S WIRELESS TRAVEL ARSENAL

Travel News Asia Date: 13 December 2000

Select Preferred Airlines; Get Destination Weather Information; Modify Travel Policy for Rebook

With Galileo Wireless™, business travelers now can personalize their wireless travel application even further and can view and modify seat assignments with a few key strokes. This is just one of the many enhancements Galileo International, Inc. (NYSE: GLC), a leading provider of electronic global travel distribution services, has made to its industry-leading wireless application that is available on any Web-enabled handheld (cell phone, two-way pager and personal digital assistant - PDA).

This is the second wave of enhancements Galileo has made to the business traveler’s wireless arsenal since Galileo Wireless was introduced in June. Galileo Wireless offerings currently include: the ability to rebook flights; view full travel itineraries; cancel hotel reservations; receive notification of on-time flights, delays and cancellations; display hotel driving directions and receive an FAA data feed on the in-flight status of flights through flightTRACKER. Enhancements joining this suite of wireless services are:

Select Preferred Airlines – the ability to personally modify and view information for preferred airlines. Flight information, flight schedules and flightTRACKER can easily be viewed from a personalized list created by the traveler.

Travel Policy Options – the ability to allow the corporate sponsor or the travel agency assigned to the corporate account to control options for the air rebooking functionality. This gives both the travel agency and the corporation greater flexibility in the enforcement and management of the corporate travel budget. The policy enhancement feature can be set with standard guidelines for all corporate travelers who use the rebooking functionality, be tailored for each traveler, or allow for an override of the policy depending on circumstances. The policy for rebooking can be formulated by utilizing one or more of the following parameters: Unrestricted, Same Class (cabin), Same Booking Code, Same Carrier, Same Class and Carrier, Same Booking Code and Carrier.

Seat Assignment – the ability to view and modify seat assignments prior to the day of departure on any flight(s) in an itinerary. No more surprises at the gate check-in when the seat assignment does not correspond with the requested seat selection in the traveler’s profile. With a few key strokes, the business traveler can verify the seat selection on a particular flight or change it without having to call the airline, corporate travel manager or sponsoring travel agent – saving time and productivity on all fronts.

Weather Notification – the ability to receive automatically weather information for the destination city, along with proactive flight notification status prior to departure to specified e-mail address(es). Weather information is sent directly to the business traveler 24 hours in advance of departure.

"Realizing from the beginning that one device or one set of services would not fulfill the many needs of business travelers or corporations, we developed our wireless application to be used on multiple Web-enabled handhelds and are offering industry-leading travel services that can be personalized to the needs of the user,” said James E. Lubinski, executive vice president, Operations. “These enhancements to Galileo Wireless will further extend our lead and penetration into one of the fastest growing consumer technology sectors in the marketplace today.”

Other personalization features in this round of enhancements include the ability to bypass certain introduction screens, allowing the user to go directly to sign-in; cancel car reservations; and re-arrange the order of options on the menu screen.

“Galileo Wireless gives business travelers the best of both worlds by offering personalized services in the form of handhelds to complement those services offered by their travel agents,” said Babetta Gray, executive vice president, Subscriber Sales and Service. “Any changes made by the traveler to his itinerary is queued back to the sponsoring travel agency in real time, resulting in automatic data synchronization. Galileo believes this is key in allowing our agency partners to provide superior customer service and maintain comprehensive control over travel-related information for reporting purposes.”
