Travel News Asia Date: 11 November 2000

Recommend Magazine Lists Readers' Choice Awards

Iceland has been named as the "Best Adventure/Ecotourism Destination -- Europe" by North America travel agents in Recommend Magazine's fourth annual Readers' Choice Award.

"We are extremely proud of the country we call 'home'," said Gunnar Eklund, Icelandair's General Manager-The Americas, recipient of the crystal sculpture award. "Iceland is our stepping stone in the North Atlantic, the hub of our transatlantic flight operations," he added. "More than 45,000 Americans and Canadians have discovered the beauty and excitement of Iceland in the first 9 months of the year 2000, up by more than 20% from last year.

We at Icelandair are taking a very active part in the increased efforts to promote Iceland, and are extremely delighted that our efforts have been so nicely recognized with this prestigious award."

Situated in the North Atlantic just a 5-hour flight from the US East Coast, Iceland has become one of Europe's hottest destinations, with its capital Reykjavik ranking among the world's leading nightspots. Nature and beauty abound in this lovely island, offering year-round choices for fun and adventure, including glacier snowmobiling, Viking horseback riding, hiking, biking, river rafting and outdoor swimming in geothermal pools.

Icelandair offers daily departures to Iceland, with gateways in New York (JFK), Boston, Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Minneapolis/St. Paul, Orlando and Halifax.
