CATHAY PACIFIC RELEASES MAY TRAFFIC FIGURES

Travel News Asia Date: 10 July 2000

Cathay Pacific Airways carried 967,783 passengers in May, bringing the total for the first five months of the year to 4.78 million. This represents an increase of 11% over the same period in 1999. The airline carried a total of 61,250 tonnes of cargo in the month, meaning there has been a 12.4% increase for the year-to-date.

During May, Cathay Pacific operated 2,034 flights, up from 1,988 flights in April, as the airline added frequencies across its network. For the first five months, the airline had operated 3% more flights than the same period in 1999.

Cathay Pacific’s Director Sales & Marketing James Barrington said: “The encouraging growth we saw through the start of the year continued in May. Even though total passenger numbers slowed a little from April’s record levels, we still saw high load factors and across almost all of our routes.”
