Travel News Asia 6 January 2004

Six of The Peninsula Hotels' luxury properties - The Peninsula Bangkok, The Peninsula Manila, The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Beverly Hills, The Peninsula Chicago and The Peninsula Palace Beijing - have been awarded top honours in the January 2004 issue of Condé Nast Traveler in its 2004 Gold List and Travel + Leisure’s ‘T+L 500 – The Greatest Hotels in the World’.

More than 32,000 Conde Nast Traveler subscribers voted in this year’s Readers’ Choice Poll for the 10th annual Gold List, published in the January 2004 issue of Condé Nast Traveler magazine. In the Asia/Australia/Pacific Nations categories of the Gold List, with scores of 100 points each, The Peninsula Bangkok and The Peninsula Manila were chosen as “The Best by Service”, while The Peninsula Bangkok also received a 100 point score in both “The Best by Rooms” and “The Best by Design” categories.

The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Hotels' flagship property and known worldwide for its timeless elegance, was voted number one for “The Best by Food”.

With an overall score of 91.5, The Peninsula Manila is the only hotel rated in the Philippines; while The Peninsula Hong Kong (95.4), The Peninsula Bangkok (96.6), The Peninsula Beverly Hills (94.6) and The Peninsula Chicago (94.9) are the highest rated hotels in their respective destinations.

Following a US$27 million renovation programme, The Palace Hotel Beijing was officially renamed The Peninsula Palace Beijing in September 2003. A significant jump in its overall score from 74.6 to 85.0 has made The Peninsula Palace Beijing the third highest rated hotel in China.

Meanwhile, in its annual ‘T+L 500 – The Greatest Hotels in the World’ awards, Travel + Leisure’s readers honored The Peninsula Beverly Hills, The Peninsula Chicago, The Peninsula Bangkok & The Peninsula Hong Kong as No. 1 in their respective destinations, while The Peninsula Palace Beijing is the highest rated hotel in the PRC.

"The opinions of our guests matter a great deal to us," said Clement Kwok, Chief Executive Officer of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, owner of The Peninsula Hotels. "Their continued support is especially valued, not only for their loyal patronage, but also for the honours their votes earn for our properties in influential readership polls such as Conde Nast Traveler.”

"These awards are an encouragement to all our staff to whom credit should rightly be attributed for their efforts in maintaining the highest standards of service."
