Furama and the VinPearl Resort & Spa, Nha Trang part company after December 2003 opening

Travel News Asia 6 January 2004

Hon Tre Tourist & Trade Company which owns the new luxury VinPearl Resort & Spa, Nha Trang and Hong Kong based Furama Hotels & Resorts International , which manages the award-winning five star Furama Resort Danang and The Caravelle Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, have announced that following the successful opening of the VinPearl Resort in late December 2003, Furama Hotels & Resorts International will end its involvement with the resort.

“Furama Hotels & Resorts International has successfully opened the resort for us and we thank them for their invaluable assistance and co-operation,” said Mr Vuong, President of Hon Tre Tourist & Trade Company. “ However both parties feel by mutual consent that the best way forward is for the resort to assume its own management,” he said.

“Although we did believe in the planning stage that there would be great synergy to be exploited by managing the two resorts together, in fact we now realize that the VinPearl’s market segment is not the same as we are targeting with our other hotels in Vietnam,“ said Paul Stoll, the Furama Hotels & Resorts International representative and General Manager of the Furama Resort Danang.

“Now that the resort is already successfully opened, it seems a good moment to draw a line under our co-operation and go our separate ways. We continue to wish the resort well and hope that it will be a successful new addition to Vietnam’s tourism industry,” he added.
