Acupuncture on the menu of Six Senses Spa at Soneva Fushi, Maldives

Travel News Asia 5 October 2004

Following a successful visit to the Six Senses Spa at Soneva Fushi in the Maldives last year, acupuncturist Maureen Cromey is to return for another month-long series from 24 January until 24 February 2005.

Acupuncture was first introduced to Soneva Fushi several years ago, then again last year for a limited period, by Maureen, to augment the range of therapies available at the Six Senses Spa. It was chosen because, although it is a mainstream therapy accepted in many hospitals and general practices, it has unique properties.

During Maureens previous visit, guests discovered that they could apply acupuncture to treat problems which they had not had time to address previously, or that they were unaware could be helped. One or two weeks is ample time in the relaxed environment to make changes and when necessary, advise on further treatments which would be of benefit after returning home.

Some guests used it to simply boost low energy and tiredness, enhancing the positive effects of the environment. After treatment courses, guests regularly remarked that they felt so well, their holiday seemed much longer than it really had been.

Maureen credentials include B.Sc.(Hons), Dip.Ac.(China), MBAcC, Dip.(SCHM), RCHM. She is also a member of The British Acupuncture Council and The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

After training in London during the early 1980s Maureen lived and worked in a traditional hospital in Guangzhou, China. She studied advanced acupuncture and gained extensive and intensive experience within a busy traditional Chinese medicine hospital clinic. During her stay she also studied Qi Gong and Chinese medical massage.

Maureen returned to Guangzhou in 1992 to complete her studies in Chinese herbal medicine and to gain further specialist clinical experience in herbal medicine and acupuncture.

In 1988, Maureen established her own acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine practice. She continues to be the owner and director of Clinic 251 in West London where she practices and directs a team of other practitioners.
