The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently sponsored the first 'Receptionist of the Year'
competition, which was organized in conjunction with the AICR - Dubai front office managers' group.
The competition attracted participation from more than 30 Dubai hotels with all the five-star properties well represented.
Well known personalities from the tourism industry comprised the panel of judges including Lisa Steel, DTCM Director of
Training and Solutions.
The winner,
Shanika Perera - Receptionist at the Sheraton
Dubai Creek Hotel and Towers, was selected on the basis of her general knowledge,
presentation and efficiency among others.
She will soon be travelling to Switzerland to represent Dubai and UAE in the 'International Receptionist of the Year' competition
being held from January 12 - 16 in which 13 countries are participating.
The annual competition, which was held in Dubai for the first time, was chaired by Azar Saliba, Front Office Manager,
Metropolitan Resort & Beach Club.
The 'Receptionist of the Year' competition is organized by Amicale Internationale des chefs de receptions et de sous directeurs
des hotels (AICR). The host country for next year's competition is Switzerland and the selection will be at an international level
between all the major cities in the world.
