British Airways is adding an extra jumbo jet flight from Bangkok to London Heathrow on Saturday January 1 to help bring back home people stranded by the disaster in south east Asia.

The aircraft will leave Bangkok on Saturday January 1 at 10am (Bangkok time or 3am UK time).

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has charted the aircraft for the relief flight and will allocate the seats onboard.

British Airways will fly extra staff to Thailand to help with the arrangements for the flight.

A medical support team from British Airways health services department is also flying to Thailand to help passengers at Bangkok airport before the extra flight.

Throughout the month of January British Airways will give all customer and staff donations to its Change for Good programme in partnership with UNICEF for relief support aimed specifically at helping those affected by the disaster.

The airline anticipates that the donations collected on its global fleet of aircraft during the next month to UNICEF will be up to £500,000.
