Starwood opens Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort

Travel News Asia 28 March 2004

Starwood Hotels & Resorts today opened the Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort in Sichuan, China.

This five star property first opened in October 2000 as Jiuzhaigou International Hotel under a local management company until mid 2003, when Starwood officially took over the management of the resort. The resort then underwent a rebranding process to align with international operating standards of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts.

Owned by Sichuan Xin Chengxin Industrial Co., Ltd, Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort is the first international upscale resort in the world-famous Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area of the Sichuan province, serving both leisure and incentive travelers.

"We are very pleased with the official opening of Sheraton Juizhaigou Resort, another testimony of Starwood's commitment to the rapidly growing inbound and intra-regional business in China. We are delighted to be in partnership with Sichuan Xinchengxin Industrial Co Ltd. and are proud to manage this stunning resort," said Qian Jin, Vice President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia-Pacific and Area Managing Director of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in China, "Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort will be Starwood's eighteenth operating hotel in China and its second resort in mainland China. It will be a fine addition to our collection of Sheraton, Westin, St Regis and Four Points by Sheraton properties in China." added Qian.

Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort is strategically located 1.5 hours away by car from the new Jiuhuang Airport and only 10 minutes away on foot from the entrance to the world-renowned Jiuzhaigou Park. Jiuzhaigou Park was established as a natural reserve at the state level in 1978. In 1992, it was included in the World Natural Heritage list by the UNESCO, which then appointed it as a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997 and in Green Globe 21 in 2001 respectively. Hence Jiuzhaigou is a place of interest with three world class laurels, the only one of its kind in China.

Jiuzhaigou features a variety of scenery in different seasons, with a blaze of color in spring, thick branches and greenery in summer, goldenness in autumn and purity in winter. Autumn, especially in the months of September and October, is the most attractive season when lakes, waterfalls, forests, snow peaks and typical Tibetan folklore are most noticeable.

With an investment of RMB 380 million and covering an area of 62.8 thousand sq meters, Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort is tastefully designed and constructed with a rich Tibetan style and a sense of modernity. The Resort comprises 4 sections: East and West Wings, the Grand Theatre, the Chinese Horoscope Art Plaza and the Symbolic Tower.

Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Resort boasts 482 guestrooms, including 20 suites. Exquisitely furnished, the rooms exude the beauty of Tibetan and Qiang ethnic cultures. Room facilities include international satellite TV sets, safe boxes, mini-bars, voice mail system and broadband internet access.

The resort features 6 food and beverages outlets, 4,000 square feet meeting space and extensive recreational facilities including an indoor pool and a grand theatre for 500 people. Equipped with a revolving and ascending stage and Turbo sound system, the theatre is an ideal venue for guests to enjoy the unique Tibetan and Qiang ethnic singing and dancing performances.

Other facilities include a health center, sauna, massage, Tibetan pedicure, beauty salon as well as a business center and retail shops.
