Travel News Asia 27 May 2004

The first Guerlain Spa in Asia has opened at the Shilla Jeju resort on South Korea’s ‘Fantasy Island’ of Jeju.

The leading French luxury brand will open a second Guerlain Spa later this year at the company’s flagship hotel, The Shilla Seoul which is a member of the prestigious The Leading Hotels of the World.

Guerlain's “new generation of spa” is the ultimate spa experience at the centre of a major enhancement of The Shilla group’s health, well-being, fitness and beauty facilities.

Part of the prestigious LVMH Group, L’Institut de Guerlain has been synonymous with luxury cosmetics, fragrances and skin-care products since 1939. Its flagship spa is on the Champs Elysees in Paris.

At The Shilla Jeju, Guerlain has trained masseurs and beauty therapists to its exacting international standards, while providing all treatment techniques both European and Asian, and its famous range of beauty products.

World-renowned Spa Chakra designers created the groundbreaking and visually stunning Indochine inspired interiors of L'Institut de Guerlain spa.

A majestic entrance greets guests to the 7,000-plus square foot world of sophisticated pampering and well-being. Serene and spacious interiors feature a muted palette of colours in brown, white and black that includes a tasteful mix of textures, elements and materials imported from Australia, France and Germany.

Fifteen treatment rooms include Foot Bath Room, Vichy Shower Room and Aromatherapy Room as well as special rooms for couples and groups, and VIP suites.

The Guerlain Spa offers an extensive menu of treatments from Imperial, Swedish and Pre-Post Natal body massages to facials, reflexology, and lifestyle and nutrition consulting.

Spa Packages include options for brides, the jet-lagged or simply those seeking a transforming, pampering experience.

The "Travel Prescription" range also includes the 180 minute Pre Flight treatment featuring 5 Senses Hydrotherapy Massage, Body Polish, Complete Facial and a gift.

It is the only spa in South Korea benefiting from Guerlain’s unique and in-depth understanding of the skin, especially in areas involving anti-aging and preventative skin maintenance care.

Treatments vary in duration from 60 to 120 minutes, packages up to 480 minutes and prices start at W130,000 (USD110). Also available for sale are more than 65 world-renowned Guerlain cosmetic products.

“Guerlain Spas are distinguished by the expertise of their professional therapists and efficacy of its products and massage techniques, as well as its unique approach to customer service which combines beauty, lifestyle and relaxation,” said a spokesperson for The Shilla Jeju.

“They set the benchmark for spas, not only in South Korea, but throughout Asia.”

In addition to the new spa, the resort has totally renovated its state-of-the-art Fitness Club, with gymnasium, jogging paths, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam-room, tennis courts and racquetball courts and kids club.

Tailored programs for guests prepared by expert trainers further include yoga, meditation, and body and facial care – while the resort’s international restaurants also feature health menus.
