Le Meridien Al Aqah lifeguards pass prestigious British lifesaving course

Travel News Asia 26 January 2004

Seven out of the eleven members of the Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort's highly qualified lifeguard team recently passed the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) drowning prevention course, the most coveted lifeguard course in the world. The RLSS is the foremost governing body for lifesaving and life guarding and is based in the United Kingdom.

The seven lifeguards were put to the challenge with strenuous swimming and fitness tests, theoretical and practical exams in both first aid and CPR and life guarding / lifesaving skills. The comprehensive course also covered the latest techniques and updates in life guarding.

Commenting on this feat, Patrick Antaki, general manager, Le Meridien Al Aqah, said, "We are extremely proud of these seven young men. At Le Meridien Al Aqah the exemplary facilities are complemented by highly trained staff who ensure that all guests feel comfortable and most importantly as secure as possible. Whether you're at the pool or relaxing on the beach, you'll be safe under the watchful eye of our RLSS certified lifeguards."

A joint venture between Emirates Airlines and the Hotel and Resort Investment Company, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort has provided a major thrust to the tourism sector in the East Coast of the UAE, and is located on a two kilometre sand beach, nestled between the Hajar Mountains and the Indian Ocean. Some of the hotel's state of the art facilities include one of the UAE's largest pools, a Wellness Centre featuring Cleopatra Beauty Rooms, the Baywatch Village restaurant complex, four additional bars and restaurants and a professional diving centre.
