Accor to manage new All-Inclusive Resort in Thailand

Travel News Asia 23 September 2004

Accor is to manage a new resort in Thailand when the Sofitel Phi Phi Villa & Spa opens early 2005 on the picturesque Phi Phi Island featuring an unique all-inclusive concept for guests seeking to get away from it all and indulge themselves.

The hotel is tucked into a leafy hillside on the main Phi Phi Don Island, just north of the uninhabited Phi Phi Ley Island and film location for Hollywood’s ‘The Beach’, with 147 individual villas measuring at least 59 sqm each.

Each offers private balconies with spectacular 270-degree views of the Krabi mainland and Andaman Sea, positioned to take advantage of cool sea breezes and limit exposure to the sun.

Sofitel Phi Phi Villa & Spa will offer a superb dinning experience, with guests enjoying the convenience of never having to ask for the cheque during their stay. All meals and beverages are covered at the hotel’s four restaurants and three bars, as are treatments at its expansive health and wellness spa complex.

There will be two pools, fitness centre, indoor recreation centre, tennis court, business centre, Sofitel Library, beauty salon, children’s day care centre, fully equipped medical clinic, beach club and a wide range of beach activities and water sports on offer. This includes kayaks and canoes as motorized water sports, such as jet skis, are not allowed on Phi Phi Island. There will also be a fully equipped dive centre with training pool.

Guests will check in at an exclusive Sofitel Lounge at Rassada Harbour in Phuket, before boarding an Island Explorer twin-hull Catamaran for the transfer from the Thai mainland to the resort. Electric carts will then whisk them to their private villa and provide transport around the grounds. Mountain bikes are also provided for guest use and ease of movement.

Accor Asia pacific Managing Director, Michael Issenberg, said the opening of Sofitel Phi Phi Villa & Spa adds one of Asia’s best-known destinations to Accor’s growing network of Sofitel resorts around the region, “For many years, and well before Hollywood, the Phi Phi Islands were well known to discerning travellers who wanted an exquisite location, with sympathetic tourism accommodation and a multitude of activities available.

“Once completed, Sofitel Phi Phi Villa & Spa will offer a new level of luxury accommodation on the island that has not been available before. The quality of the product and all-inclusive packaging will appeal to guests looking for the ultimate in island getaways.”
