Pollock to address PATA Conference 2004

Travel News Asia 2 February 2004

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced that Ms. Anna Pollock, CEO of DestiCorp, will deliver the opening keynote address at the 53rd PATA Annual Conference, Jeju Island, Korea (ROK), April 18-22, 2004.

2004 PATA Annual Conference Programme Chairman, Mr. Tan Chee Chye, said: "Change, especially technological change, is a powerful force recognised in all sectors of society. Ms. Pollock has world-class skills as a communicator of business, social and technological trends. This, combined with her entrepreneurial and business management experience, ensures that Conference delegates will be highly motivated by her address."

Ms. Pollock said she wants her presentation to enable delegates to blur the boundaries between their activities and those of other so-called economic sectors and perceive the potential for innovation and collaboration.

"I hope delegates leave the presentation with a better understanding of the nature of change and a sense of how to think about their own responses to it."

In 2000, Ms. Pollock created DestiCorp to provide e-commerce consultancy services to tourism destinations and explore business models for distributing Web-based technologies to small and medium-sized tourism providers and destination marketing companies.

In 1997, Ms. Pollock co-founded The Pembridge Group to develop an Intelligent Destination Management System for tourism authorities. The UK Government’s first tourism strategy document, Tomorrow’s Tourism, in 1999, described the work pioneered by The Pembridge Group as "best practice".

Ms. Pollock received the 1999 Visionary of the Year Award from the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia for her contribution to tourism in Canada.

The theme of the 53rd PATA Annual Conference is, "Tourism is Everybody’s Business".
