Banyan Tree Spa Signs First Agreement in Japan

Travel News Asia 22 April 2004

International luxury spa group, Banyan Tree Spa has signed an agreement with Mori Kanko Trust to operate a Banyan Tree Spa at Granforet Villa Gora Club, which is 90 kilometers south-west of Tokyo. Banyan Tree Holdings has incorporated Banyan Tree Spa Japan Yugen Kaisha to operate Banyan Tree Spa Hakone.

The spa with 10 treatment rooms is expected to open in the spring of 2005 at ancient hideaway Gora, the former relaxing retreat of the Kanin-no-miya Imperial Family which is set in beautiful surroundings in the national park of Hakone.

Banyan Tree Spas are established at each of the Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts in Thailand, the Maldives, the Seychelles, and Indonesia. In addition, the group operates a Banyan Tree Spa at the Westin Shanghai.

When Banyan Tree Spa first opened in 1994 in Banyan Tree Phuket, Thailand, it pioneered the tropical garden spa concept with its Eastern therapies and non-clinical, holistic focus on spiritual, mental and physical harmony. As one of the first luxury tropical garden resort spas in Asia, it reintroduced an exotic blend of ancient health and beauty remedies passed down through the generations.
