Abacus and Qantas sign new fare agreement

Travel News Asia 18 June 2004

Abacus-connected travel agents in Australia have been able to enjoy a waiver of the fare difference on all Qantas Airways and Australian Airlines domestic and trans-Tasman fares from the beginning of June due to an agreement signed with Abacus and Australia's national carrier.

According to the agreement that will initially run for three years, Abacus-connected agents in Australia will be able to sell Qantas Airways and Australian Airlines public fares including domestic and trans-Tasman fares without the fare difference from the first of June 2004. They will also be able to sell Qantas Red e-Deal fares and special fares previously only sold over the Australian websites of Qantas Airways and Australian Airlines.

"We are confident that this arrangement, which is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure our subscribers get access to the best range of products and the best price, will be well-received. This is a win-win situation for all parties involved," said Albert Ho, General Manager, Abacus Distribution Systems (Australia) Pty Ltd.

Abacus said it is currently communicating with its travel agent customers to introduce them to the new service arrangement and provide assistance and documentation for them to participate in the programme.
