JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa voted 'Best Hotel Spa in Asia'

Travel News Asia 16 February 2004

JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa received Conde Nast Traveller Magazine's Inaugural Readers' Spa Award for the "Best Hotel Spa in Asia" at a ceremony held in London last week.

In addition, the resort's Mandara Spa was awarded second place in "The World's top 25" category. Readers were asked to nominate their favorite spas in various categories including Urban Day Spas, Hotel Spas, Spa Retreats and Medical/Thermal Spas.

The spa facilities at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa are operated by Mandara Spa Asia; the largest operator of resort garden spas in the region.

Each category was rated according to a number of criteria, including service (for which Asia scored highest), accommodation, amenities, body treatments, décor and ambiance. The results were tabulated to reveal the winners in each category, with the highest scorers ranked as the world's top 25.

"We are delighted to receive this honor from our customers and the magazine, especially in view of the very strong competition throughout the region", said Jeff Crowe, Director of Marketing, Thailand, for Marriott International,. When we opened the resort two years ago, it quickly became apparent that demand for the spa experience offered at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa was far greater than anticipated and the number of treatment rooms simply could not handle the demand. Our new spa wing, which effectively doubled the number of treatment suites, opened in December last year and is also running to capacity," he added.

Eighty percent of the resort's guests use the Spa with a high percentage of guests returning for multiple treatments during their stay.
