Virgin Atlantic prepares for launch of London - Hong Kong - Sydney flights

Virgin Atlantic Airways has officially started the countdown to its highly anticipated daily flight from Sydney to Hong Kong and London, due to commence on December 8, by unveiling the centrepiece of its unique product offering, the luxurious new Upper Class Suite.

Revealed in true Virgin Atlantic style at a special preview held at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art last night, Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class Suite one of the biggest fully flat beds in Business Class.

At the mere push of a button, the passengers leather seat simply flips over to form a fully flat bed, complete with a real mattress, a proper doona, pillow and a little hot water bottle.

“Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class Suite is really First Class at Business Class prices,” said Gia Acitelli, Virgin Atlantic’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Australia and New Zealand.

“It is vastly superior to the Business Class offerings of our competitors on the Sydney to Hong Kong and London route. Size really does matter to business travellers and simply put, ours is bigger than theirs.”

The Essential Facts: What makes the Upper Class Suite so Different?

- The Upper Class seat is 22 inches wide, compared with 20 inches in BA’s Club World and First Class cabins and 21.5 inches in Qantas Business and First Classes

- The Upper Class bed is a huge 33 inches wide across the shoulder area, compared with a maximum of just 20 inches on BA and 23.5 inches on Qantas

- The Upper Class bed is 79.5 inches long, compared with 72 inches in BA Club World, 78 inches in BA and Qantas First Class cabins, and 78.5 inches in Qantas Business Class

- For Upper Class passengers who don’t want to sleep, Virgin Atlantic offers the impressive V:port in-flight entertainment system, which provides a choice of 50 movies plus 300 hours of video and audio entertainment on 10.4 inches individual screens 

- Alternatively, passengers can entertain, conduct business or even dine with a guest, who can sit on the ottoman seat at a spacious fold-down table in each Upper Class Suite – even when the seatbelt sign is on

- For those Upper Class passengers who feel more like socialising than sleeping, Virgin Atlantic offers its unique in-flight bar in the forward cabin of the aircraft

- And for those who need to physically unwind, Virgin Atlantic offers back, shoulder and scalp massages in the in-flight Upper Class salon – or soothing hand and beauty treatments on request at each Upper Class suite

And it doesn’t stop there – 

- On the ground, Virgin Atlantic offers lounge access to Upper Class passengers at Sydney and Hong Kong airports

- In London Virgin Atlantic offers the use of both its Revivals Lounge at Heathrow, complete with dining and shower facilities, and its unique Virgin Clubhouse for departing passengers, who can rest, dine, watch a movie, listen to music, have their hair cut, enjoy a back or neck massage

- Also included in the price of a Virgin Atlantic Upper Class ticket are chauffeur driven journeys to and from the airport at both ends of the route

“Sydney is a prestigious route for us and will become Virgin Atlantic’s 23rd destination,” said Gia Acitelli. “Not only will we offer another option to travellers flying between Sydney, Hong Kong and London – we will offer a unique new travel experience which reintroduces excitement to long haul travel, and at very affordable prices.”

Virgin Atlantic Airways Flight VS201 will depart Sydney at 4.15pm each day, arriving at Hong Kong at 10.05pm. After a stop of just 90 minutes, the aircraft will then depart Hong Kong at 11.35pm, arriving at London Heathrow at 4.50am the following day.

For travellers to Australia, flight VS200 will depart London’s Heathrow Airport daily at 9.30pm arriving in Hong Kong at 5.50pm the following day. The aircraft will then depart Hong Kong at 7.20pm arriving in Sydney at 7.10am the following day.

All services will be operated by 306-seat Airbus A340-600 aircraft with a configuration of 45 Upper Class Suites, 28 Premium Economy and 233 Economy seats.
