Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation to stage 2005 Aviation and Tourism Outlook Conference

Travel News Asia 13 September 2004

The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation is to stage one of the most significant aviation events in the region to showcase expectations for the airline, airport and tourism sectors in 2005.

In a major expansion of its successful aviation conference programme, the Centre will hold its high level Asia Pacific/Middle East Aviation and Tourism Outlook 2005 conference in Singapore in January.

This event will run back-to-back with the Centre’s Second Annual Low Cost Airline Symposium 2005, also in Singapore in January 2005.

“These two well-timed events at the start of 2005 will set the aviation and tourism agenda for the year by providing a thorough review of the driving factors for change in the Asia Pacific and Middle East aviation markets in 2005,” the Centre’s Managing Director, Peter Harbison, said.

“We are looking forward to hearing directly from airline and airport CEOs and other senior government and industry figures on what is driving their strategic priorities in the coming year,” said Mr Harbison. “As well as the cream of the aviation and tourism industries, we anticipate extensive participation by the financial community, with all major media in attendance.”

The Centre will also announce its Annual CAPA Aviation Awards, including the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation’s Airline of the Year Award at a gala reception during the two events.

An exhibition showcasing supplier products and services strategies and solutions for the aviation and tourism industry will run in conjunction with the conferences.

“We are excited to be expanding our range of conferences in 2005, following our launch into this field in February this year. We shall be announcing several more conferences and events to be held in various locations in Asia over coming weeks.” Mr Harbison added.

A specialist aviation and tourism consultancy, the Centre was among the first to recognise the potential impact Low Cost Airlines would have on the Asia Pacific region. In response, the Centre created a series of regional Low Cost Airline Symposia in 2004 for discussion, dissemination of information and networking.

The first Annual Asia Pacific Low Cost Airline Symposium for Southeast Asia was held in Singapore in February 2004, and two high level regional events in Macau in April 2004 and Delhi in July 2004, followed. Over 700 people attended these highly successful events.

Asia Pacific/Middle East Aviation and Tourism Outlook 2005

In recent years, war, terrorism and epidemics have had devastating effects on the aviation and tourism industries and made planning particularly difficult. This outlook conference includes the comprehensive study of the trends and outlook for the aviation and tourism industry.

The conference will bring together industry leaders to provide unique insights, analyses and solutions to a wide range of critical subjects. These are the planners and decision makers in today’s aviation industry, making this one of the most important events in the planning calendar.

2nd Annual Asia Pacific Low Cost Airline Symposium 2005

Less than a year ago, the low cost airline model was widely dismissed as being unsuited to the Asia Pacific region. Times have changed. The aviation industry in Asia Pacific is being transformed irreversibly as the low cost airline phenomenon gathers strength. Its impact on conventional airline strategies is the most talked about issue in the industry today.

A review of what has been learned here and in the rest of the world is now critical for all those faced with the challenges and promises of the future.

High profile decision makers including CEOs, low cost airline specialists, senior government officials, airport operators and key suppliers will address such topics as the US and European experience, strategies for the future, market growth and the emergence of an Asian model for low cost carriers.
