Hosts of the 8th International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) have announced that James Sherwood, founder and chairman of Orient Express Hotels Ltd., will receive the lifetime achievement award at the event, scheduled for 15-17 March 2005 at the Hotel InterContinental Berlin, Germany.

Past winners of the award include 2004 recipient Kurt Ritter of Rezidor SAS Hospitality and 2003 honouree P.R.S. Oberoi of Oberoi Hotels Private Limited.

Under Sherwood’s leadership, the Orient Express organization owns and manages 45 famous properties such as the Hotel Cipriani in Venice, the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, the Mount Nelson in Cape Town, Charleston Place in Charleston, S.C. and the Windsor Court in New Orleans. In addition, the company’s assets include the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Eastern & Oriental Express tourist trains, the “21” Club in New York and the “Road to Mandalay” cruise ship in Burma.

Sherwood also is founder, president and chief executive officer of Sea Containers, Ltd., a Bermuda company engaged in marine container asset leasing, ferry, train and port operations.

About the selection of Sherwood, IHIF host Scott Pierce, Executive Vice President of Advanstar Communications, said “We are honoured that Mr. Sherwood has accepted this award. He is a self-made success story, not only in the maritime and transportation business, but also in the luxury hotel sector. Pierce added, “His approach to the luxury sector has been to offer a very special product in very special locations that can’t be duplicated and that have ‘fizz’. He’s a legend in our industry and truly deserving of this honour.”

The IHIF is one of Europe’s largest and most important conferences for hotel investment professionals. Last year’s record attendance exceeded the 1,000 mark and is expected to be even stronger this year. Hosts of the event are Advanstar Communications, BHN and CB Richard Ellis Hotels.
