Ramada names Stephen Young as Vice President, Operations and Development for Asia Pacific

Ramada International Hotels & Resorts announced today the appointment of Stephen Young to Vice President, Operations and Development for the Asia Pacific region.

Based in Hong Kong, Mr. Young will have overall responsibility for operations within the Asia Pacific region. In addition, he will lead the development strategy and new business development for China, Korea and Japan.

Just over two years ago, Mr. Young joined Ramada as Director of China Operations and Development. Under his leadership, the Ramada hotel portfolio increased from three to 12 and received the 2001-2002 Hotel of the Year Award and Service Quality Award from Ramada International. 

Prior to Ramada, Young served as Chief Operating Officer for Greater China with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts from 1999 to early 2001 after serving two years as Regional Vice President for China, Taiwan and Macau and receiving numerous accolades and success for the portfolio.

Young received his 26 years of sales and marketing experience from consumer giants Philips Electronics and Jardine Matheson & Company, who oversees marketing for such well-known brands as Christian Dior, Maybelline, IKEA, Hennessy and Heineken. Serving as Director and General Manager of Philip's largest division, Sound and Vision, Young achieved 150 percent sales growth in 1995 and won the prestigious 1996 Number One internal award for Asia Pacific. With Jardine Matheson & Company, Young held various positions from Marketing Executive and Marketing Manager to Chief Executive where he achieved numerous accolades including 120 percent profit growth in 1994, implementing two IKEA megastores in Hong Kong, growing the Hong Kong Optical Shop from 37 to 45 stores and achieving 10 percent market share for the VSOP cognac brand.

Mr. Young received his undergraduate degree from the University of Hong Kong with honors and attended the Advanced Management Program from the University of Hawaii. He resides in Hong Kong with his wife.
