SriLankan Airlines
has opened a new ticketing office in Jaffna. "With the dawn of peace, SriLankan Airlines is expecting increased business
from the North and East, especially since people living in these areas have a
large number of family members living in India and Europe who can use our
expanding route network in those regions for convenient travel," Mr Ranil
Wagiswara, Country Manager Sri Lanka, SriLankan Airlines. "Our aim is to deliver convenience to our customers, as well as service of the
highest standard. Customers in the outstations no longer have to travel the
long distance to Colombo for ticketing matters," he added. The national carrier has been expanding its network throughout the island
and opened a ticketing office in Batticaloa earlier this year, with plans to open
one in Trincomalee, followed by another in Vavuniya, before the end of the
year. SriLankan Airlines already has ticketing offices in Colombo, Kandy,
Galle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Badulla, and Dambulla. The fully computerised Jaffna office, which is operated through Ceylinco
Travels, provides all the facilities and services currently offered by the other
SriLankan ticketing offices, including ticketing, reservations, reconfirmations,
issuing of PTAs, handling special requests, and providing information on
fares, schedules and packages. The Jaffna office was ceremonially opened by G.T. Jeyaseelan, Head of
Commercial, SriLankan Airlines; Ranil Wagiswara, Country Manager Sri Lanka, SriLankan Airlines; Inga Rodrigo, Sales Manager, SriLankan Airlines;
and Ransiri Fernando, Director/General Manager of Ceylinco Travels. The opening ceremony included blessings on the new office by Hindu and
Buddhist priests, lighting of a brass oil lamp, and speeches by Mr
Jeyaseelan, Wagiswara and Fernando, followed by a traditional breakfast. A number of
business and community leaders in Jaffna attended the opening. The office is located at 1T, Stanley Road, Jaffna and is open from 8.30 am. to
5.00 pm. on weekdays (except mercantile holidays), and on Saturdays from
