Le Méridien Cyberport in Hong Kong to offer WLAN throughout hotel

Travel News Asia 5 November 2003

Opening Spring 2004, Le Méridien Cyberport is built with the future in mind, ensuring reliable and seamless connections between guests and the rest of the world.

The hotel is getting ahead in providing wireless connectivity throughout all areas of the hotel including guest rooms, lobby, restaurants and bars, fitness centre and swimming pool. Guests can access, retrieve and send e-mails, ICQ, play online games, watch videos or conduct video conferencing through a wireless connection.

The Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) provides access to the Internet without using cables and cords plugged into mobile devices. Guests can simply insert a WLAN card into a slot in their laptop or PDA and the card communicates with the data network of wireless base stations that are installed in key positions throughout the hotel. This network is then connected to the Internal Private Network (IPN), giving them a full access to the Internet and the Cyberportal. In fact, the wireless connection is also extended to the Cyberport complex from nearby offices to the shared facilities as well as public areas, which bring modern conveniences with seamlessly connectivity for the new generation of business travellers.

"As the newest hotel in Hong Kong, we are devoted to deliver unrivalled convenience for today's technology savvy travellers. Being equipped with wireless connectivity throughout the hotel is definitely an advantage that enables guests to communicate without boundaries," explained by Mr. Dean Schreiber, General Manager of the hotel.

"With such wireless capability, we are the first hotel in Asia to offer a mobile business centre where the guest can enjoy professional and seamless check-in and a range of business services anytime everywhere within the hotel."

In addition, all 173 guestrooms and suites at Le Méridien Cyberport will offer up to 100 megabyte access to an Internal Private Network (IPN) and high speed Internet access, which will fully satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed and reliable communication with the rest of the world.
