Elite Model Countdown to International Finals in Singapore

Travel News Asia 5 November 2003

65 beautiful contestants from 53 countries have arrived in Singapore for the Elite Model Look 2003 International Finals.

This is the first time that the prestigious modeling event with a 21-year history has been brought to Singapore and South East Asia.

Organised by Elite Model Management, Singapore Tourism Board and local event organizer MS Twilight, the EML 2003 International Finals will feature an exciting calendar of events from 30 October to 8 November 2003.

Kicking off on 30 October was the welcome briefing and re-looking session at the St James Power House, located at Singapore's Harbour Front. Under the watchful eyes of Elite's international scouts, the contestants had their EML makeovers by official hair and make-up sponsors Toni&Guy and Lancome Singapore, followed by indoor photo and video shoots.

The Singapore Tourism Board organized an official welcome event for the contestants at Tourism Court on 31 October. The contestants were greeted by a traditional Chinese lion dance to mark this auspicious occasion. The contestants then made their first public appearance along Orchard Road, Singapore's premier shopping belt. The evening ended with a visit to the Night Safari, Singapore's award-winning tourist attraction.

The contestants attended their first dancing class on 1 November at the St James Power House. After a day of training, the contestants went to IndoChine Waterfront to unwind. Here, they dined under the stars on the banks of the Singapore River, the island's historic waterway and trading port.

Catwalk training for the contestants was held on 2 November. For their hard work, the contestants were treated to a sushi party at En Lounge located along Mohammed Sultan, the trendiest clubbing street in Singapore.

It was an exciting day of sightseeing on 3 November as the contestants visited various places of interest for outdoor shoots. They started the day with a tranquil walk in the National Orchid Gardens. This was followed by a visit to the world's largest fountain at Suntec City. Next was Singapore's world-class arts center - the Esplanade, which wowed the contestants with its unique "prickly" architecture. The second half of the day took the contestants to Singapore's vibrant ethnic zones such as Chinatown and Little India. There the girls enjoyed shopping for precious trinkets and gifts for family and friends back home.

An island escapade at Sentosa awaited the contestants on 4 November. The contestants traveled to the offshore island by cable car and explored the island on monorail. At the Underwater World, they had their photographs taken with the amazing creatures and beautiful corals living under the sea.

The upcoming highlights for the week include the press conference, beach & party and talent nite at Sentosa and the dinner reception by the Indonesian Minister for Tourism.

The grand finale for EML 2003 International will be held on 8 November at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The finale event promises to be a star-studded event with dignitaries, celebrities and personalities from the entertainment and fashion industry gracing the occasion. The high point of the evening will be the launch of Elite's new catwalk stars with the announcement of the 15 finalists and top three winners of Elite Model Look 2003.
