Starwood's first Westin Resort in Bali opens in December 2003

Travel News Asia 4 September 2003

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced that following a complete renovation, the Sheraton Nusa Indah Resort in Bali is to be officially reflagged as The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua with effect from 1st December 2003. Located on the southern coast of Bali with its pristine white sandy beaches, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua will enhance Starwood's global collection of more than 110 upscale hotels in 29 countries, including 29 of the world's finest resorts.

An extensive upgrading program is underway at the resort, covering the lobby, guest rooms, total upgrading of its fresh water pool and the addition of a newly built salt water pool surrounding the resort. This US$4.5 million renovation program is led by several internationally acclaimed architects and designers including the famous Made Wijaya who was responsible for the remodeling of the whole pool area and gardens.

Leading the redesign of The Westin Resort's 353 luxurious guest rooms and suites is Indonesian's well-known interior designer, Hadi Prana. Through architectural modifications and stylish design incorporating modern décor and Indonesian art, Hadi's creativity has transformed the guest rooms in a distinguished style that stands out among the world-class designer hotel rooms in Bali. From its spacious lobby with oversized sails above the ceilings, to a very contemporary bar with hanging opaque glasswork and sculpted glass panels at the reception, the Westin promises a lifestyle experience dedicated to artistry and Modern Luxury.

Upon completion of its renovation, the resort will feature the Westin brand's innovative products and services such as The 'Heavenly Bed®', which consists of a custom designed pillow-top mattress set; high quality, high thread count linens; crisp white duvet coverlet and queen-size and king-size pillows.

The guestrooms also feature technologically-convenient amenities, including multiple data ports with high-speed Internet capabilities and Westin's Service Express® that allows guests to dial just one number on their telephone to request any of Westin's many services including 24 hours in-room dining. And young guests can enjoy the Westin Kids Club® experience with supervised  activities and services for children under 12 years.

"With Starwood's global network and professional management, the Westin's innovative "Modern Luxury" concept of providing unparalleled signature products and services will set a new benchmark for hotels in Indonesia. My team and I are very excited to be part of the re-branding process of this great resort", said Michel Cottray, General Manager, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. "Travelers around the world now have the choice of a world-class luxury Westin resort in Bali for their accommodation needs," added Cottray.

The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua is connected to the Bali International Convention Center through an air-conditioned shopping arcade, and is within walking distance to the magnificent 18-hole championship Nusa Dua Golf  Course and Country Club, Nusa Dua Galleria shopping center, local art and handicraft shops.
