Royal Brunei Airlines to implement Abacus Group and Claim-It

Travel News Asia 4 August 2003

Royal Brunei Airlines has signed a deal with Abacus International to implement two automated airline booking solutions – Abacus Group and Claim-It –in Singapore and Brunei.

Abacus Group enables airlines to release the ownership of the Group Passenger Name Record (PNR) created in their system to Abacus travel agents. Travel agents currently have limited access to group booking information which is kept in the airlines’ records.

Abacus Group also provides Abacus travel agents with greater control and empowers them to make changes to group bookings in the Abacus system without having to contact the airlines’ office. In addition, they do not have to create passive bookings to ticket. Airlines can then dispense with manual administrative tasks and travel agency and passenger queries.

Claim-It allows Abacus’ travel agents to display and manage their customers’ Passenger Name Records (PNRs) directly off an airline ‘s reservation system. All point-of-sale information then goes directly to the airline when a travel agent makes a claim. This system gives travel agents ownership and the ability to make active bookings allowing airlines to control distribution costs and dispense with the task of dispensing PNRs to travel agents.

Abacus’ Group booking tools have been successfully implemented by a number of carriers including Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Continental Airlines, Dragonair, Garuda Indonesia, Philippine Airlines, Silkair, Singapore Airlines, and Transasia Airways.

“The airlines that have already successfully implemented our Group booking solutions are experiencing first-hand, how they can save bottom line costs and lessen the load of labour intensive operations while enhancing efficiency.” said Mr Rogelio Sarreal, Vice President and Head of Associate Sales.

“This solution provides an excellent means of improving an airlines’ handling of group bookings and we are expecting this to help enhance coordination and communication between Royal Brunei Airlines and our travel agents.” said Royal Brunei Airlines Yield Manager Hj Kadri Hj Abd Hamid.
