Travel News Asia 4 March 2003

A chance to play with the world’s greatest golfers put the edge on a recent tournament hosted by Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates Airlines, with the top six players now entered for the forthcoming Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am Tournament.

Some 70 Skywards Gold Card members participated in the Skywards Corporate Tournament at the Montgomerie Golf Course last week (26th February).

Speaking at the prize-giving, winning golfer Emre Bahtoglu, who carded 41 points in the Stableford format, said: “I’d like to thank Skywards for this opportunity to join the world’s top players which is a dream come true for any golfer!”

In addition to playing in one of Skywards’ two teams at the Pro-Am at the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course on Wednesday 5th March, the winners will also participate in golf clinics by top golf professionals.

Skywards’ General Manager Brian LaBelle, who presented the golfers with their prizes, said: “We are proud of the fact that Skywards, as a frequent flyer programme, goes much further than just the travel experience.

“Quite a number of our Gold Card members are golf enthusiasts and we are delighted to be able to bring them this fantastic opportunity of playing in the Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am Tournament."

The six winners who will participate in the tournament are: Emre Bahtoglu (41 points), Richard Baker (40), Shamsui Bahari Salleh (39), Willem Boogaerts (39), Nick Pope (39) and Alain Delacourte (38).

The winner of the Nearest to the Pin on the 8th Hole was Rob Hossell, with Russell Penn the winner of the Nearest to the Pin on the 17th Hole.
