Malaysia Airlines Extends KL City Air Terminal Check-In Services To Cathay Pacific

Travel News Asia 3 March 2003

Effective today Malaysia Airlines is to extend its check-in facilities at Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal in KL Sentral to passengers of Cathay Pacific flights operating out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

This has been made possible as Cathay Pacific has appointed MAS as its ground handler at KL CAT.

Cathay Pacific thus becomes the first foreign airline to offer its passengers the convenience of the City Air Terminal check-in services provided by Malaysia Airlines.

Cathay Pacific passengers are still required to observe the minimum check-in time of two hours before their flight departure at the City Air Terminal check-in services, which is similar to the guidelines for MAS passengers checking-in at KL CAT.

Pleased with this expansion of MAS' KL CAT operations, its Senior General Manager of Technical Ground Operations, En. Tajuden Abu Bakar said, "Currently, MAS is the only airline and ground handling agent at KL CAT. With Cathay Pacific being the first foreign airline to use our check-in service at KL CAT, we look forward to extending this concept to other foreign airlines operating out of KLIA. Towards this objective, MAS and Express Rail Link (ERL) have embarked on a joint marketing programme to encourage more foreign airlines in KLIA, to take advantage of the facilities and services at KL CAT."

Ms Vivian Lo, Cathay Pacific's Country Manager (Malaysia & Brunei), added "The in-town check-in facility situated on the fringe of the city centre will save valuable time for our passengers. With similar services available at our check-in counters located at Hong Kong and Kowloon Train Station, our passengers can now enjoy a city to city convenient and seamless travel experience between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong".

The number of passengers using the City Air Terminal check-in services has increased  three-fold to about 18,000 per month since it's introduction in April 2002.

Cathay Pacific currently operates 33 flights a week from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong, inclusive of flights operated on code-share basis.
