Qantas launches flexible domestic fares

Travel News Asia 29 April 2003

Qantas domestic customers will have access to more flexible and easier to understand airfares from today, with new one way combinable fares now on sale for travel from 1 July.

Qantas Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing John Borghetti said the new fares package was a response to customer requests for simplicity and flexibility.

"The new fares structure applies to more than 500 city pair combinations across the entire Qantas domestic and QantasLink regional network and is the biggest change to domestic fares since the deregulation of domestic aviation 13 years ago," he said.

"Travel agents' response to the new package has been very encouraging and we expect these fares will also meet with a positive response from our customers.

"Particularly attractive is the enhanced convenience the new package offers, with the option of mixing and matching one way fares to combine affordability and flexibility to better suit individual travel needs, for both business and leisure travellers.

"For example, a customer may be able to take advantage of a lowest available Red e-Deal fare between Melbourne and Sydney. But because they are unsure of when they want to return to Melbourne, they can opt for an available Flexi Saver fare which offers free flight changes within the same fare type." he said.

Features of the new fares package include:

- the end of minimum advance purchase periods and Saturday night stayaways

- children's fares available for most fare types

- changes allowed to all bookings, with no charge for many fares, and a A$27.50 (AS$30.28) change fee (including GST) per one way trip introduced for heavily discounted fares

- where a booking is cancelled, ticket value on most fares can be retained for future use

The new fares structure applies to more than 500 city pair combinations across the entire Qantas domestic and QantasLink regional network.
